SAFETY ALERT
Protection at Power Substations
Protection at power substations is
necessary to:
n
Ensure the safety of personnel either using or working on the
telecommunications facilities.
n
Minimize damage to equipment and facilities
n
Provide the degree of service integrity and reliability
requested by the power utility.
Technicians should not risk fixing service outages until dielectric cabling
and high voltage protection is put into place.
Verizon has notified its customers that it
has reserved the right to suspend or deny all service without high voltage
protection until adequate protection is provided. Technicians must notify
their supervisor if they are unsure if high voltage protection is in place
prior to working at power substations. Verizon employees must contact the
power company representatives before performing any work inside the power
stations or its surrounding facilities.
All local managers must cover this safety
alert with their employees and document the coverage locally.
